Arsenal has confirmed a significant injury setback after captain Martin Odegaard sustained a medial collateral ligament injury to his left knee during their recent Premier League victory over West Ham United. The 26-year-old Norwegian midfielder was forced off the pitch after just 30 minutes following a collision with West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville.

This latest injury comes shortly after Odegaard’s return from a shoulder injury, raising concerns over his availability for upcoming crucial games. Arsenal’s official statement revealed that Odegaard has been withdrawn from Norway’s international duty for matches against Israel and New Zealand to allow for focused treatment and assessment by the club’s medical team.

While the club has not specified a precise timeline for his recovery, injury analysts suggest the severity could see Odegaard out of action anywhere between one to 10 weeks. A grade one strain may sideline him for one to three weeks, a grade two could extend absence to three to six weeks, and a grade three might require 10 or more weeks for full recovery.

Manager Mikel Arteta expressed cautious optimism but refrained from committing to firm return dates. Odegaard’s absence will be a blow for Arsenal as they have made a strong start to the season, and his leadership on the pitch has been critical.

In addition to Odegaard, Arsenal faces ongoing injury issues with players like Kai Havertz and Noni Madueke also in recovery from knee injuries, intensifying concerns over squad depth.

The Gunners will look to other players to step up while hoping for a swift and successful rehabilitation for their influential captain.
