Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has launched a scathing critique of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, asserting that meaningful progress in Nigeria is impossible under the 1999 Constitution, which he described as a military-era fabrication stifling democracy and growth.

Speaking in a recent interview, Pearse accused Tinubu of “playing games” with national issues, warning that the country’s systemic challenges—including economic stagnation and worsening insecurity—cannot be resolved without overhauling the constitution. He highlighted that the current constitution has entrenched structural problems and that incremental reforms like the ongoing constitution review exercise are futile without full restructuring.

Pearse also condemned the 10th National Assembly as a mere “rubber stamp” for Tinubu, alleging it operates solely based on the president’s interests to the detriment of Nigerians. He criticized key officials, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, calling for accountability in governance.

The PDP chieftain urged a return to the 2014 National Conference recommendations as a foundation for restructuring, believing this would unify the country and bolster economic progress. He warned that without such bold steps, Nigeria risks sliding toward a failed state, citing deteriorating security and unaddressed governance issues.

His comments underscore sharp opposition pressure on the Tinubu administration to prioritize constitutional reform as essential for national recovery and democratic consolidation.
