Yung Miami, a member of the rap duo City Girls, has publicly accused South African singer Tyla of stealing her unreleased song idea. Miami claimed that she had a track titled “Take Me to Chanel,” which she played for Tyla in the past. However, when Tyla announced an upcoming single called “Chanel” with a similar theme and the lyric “Put me in Chanel,” Miami accused her of copying the concept without permission.
The rapper expressed her frustration on social media, tweeting, “This girl really ran off with my song and I don’t know how to feel about it,” adding that the title change does not make it any less her original work. Miami also responded to fans defending Tyla by asserting, “Don’t matter, it’s my mf song!!!” The issue stirred online debate, with fans comparing both songs and discussing similarities and differences. Some believe Miami’s accusation is valid, while others think the likeness might be coincidental given the common cultural reference to the luxury brand Chanel.
Tyla has yet to respond publicly. This controversy highlights ongoing challenges in the music industry over originality, idea ownership, and intellectual property.
