Popular Nigerian journalist and political commentator Dele Momodu has shared insights on why former Senator Ben Murray-Bruce chose to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in October 2025. According to Momodu, Murray-Bruce’s decision stemmed largely from his belief in the reform agenda and leadership style of President Bola Tinubu. Murray-Bruce has known Tinubu since 1998 and credits him with a profound understanding of Nigeria’s economic challenges and the courage to implement necessary but difficult reforms.

Murray-Bruce praised Tinubu’s focus on stabilizing the economy, dismantling insecurity systematically, and eliminating fuel scarcity through deregulation. His defection was grounded not in political opportunism, but a genuine conviction that Tinubu’s leadership would bring long-term progress and prosperity to Nigeria.

Momodu acknowledged that while some may view defections skeptically, Murray-Bruce stands out as principled, backing his new party due to shared vision rather than mere political convenience. The defection highlights a growing trend of opposition figures aligning with APC, attracted by the promise of transformative governance and economic renewal under Tinubu’s administration.
