Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, former Minister of Interior and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has predicted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will lose the 2027 general elections. Speaking at the commissioning of the ADC’s state secretariat in Ilorin, Aregbesola expressed confidence in his forecast, basing it on widespread dissatisfaction with the All Progressives Congress (APC) government.

Aregbesola criticized the APC’s tactics, highlighting aggressive intimidation of opposition members across Nigeria as a sign of the ruling party’s insecurity and unpopularity. He stated, “If the APC were genuinely confident in its strength, it wouldn’t need to intimidate opposition members from Lagos to Kebbi to Kaduna.” This, he said, is an admission of fear and desperation.

The former Osun State governor predicted that the ADC would capitalize on the popular discontent and lead Nigeria and many states in the upcoming elections. He disparaged governors defecting to the APC as “known enemies of the people,” whose presence is largely rejected by the populace.

Aregbesola’s comments have sparked debate, with the APC dismissing the predictions as political suicide and empty boasts, asserting their confidence in delivering results and maintaining voter support into 2027.
