Niyi Adeogun, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Assembly candidate in Ekiti State, along with several party stalwarts, have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The group cited their decision was influenced by the sweeping and radical economic reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji.

Speaking at the defection event, Adeogun praised the APC’s commitment to development and progress, contrasting it with what he described as the PDP’s internal challenges and lack of clear direction. He expressed confidence that joining APC will enable them to contribute effectively to the socio-economic growth of Ekiti and Nigeria at large.

The APC State Chairman, Hon. Sola Elesin, warmly welcomed the defectors and reiterated the party’s message of inclusivity and continuous drive for good governance. This defection is seen as a significant boost for the APC ahead of the 2026 Ekiti State elections and the 2027 general elections.

This move adds to the growing trend of defections from opposition parties to the ruling APC, signaling shifting political dynamics in Nigeria’s Southwest region.
