The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has fired back at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s controversial presidential pardon exercise. Mogaji Seye Oladejo, Lagos APC Publicity Secretary, challenged Atiku to stop “weaponizing ignorance,” stressing that Tinubu’s leadership operates strictly within the bounds of the law.
Oladejo defended the President’s review and subsequent reversal of some pardons, explaining that the process followed due legal procedures, guided by consultations with the Attorney-General and the Council of State. The APC spokesperson accused Atiku of lacking moral grounds to question the President, describing Atiku’s political record as “tarnished” and marked by “endless defections and betrayals.”
The Lagos APC argued that the pardon exercise aimed to balance justice, compassion, and national interest, rejecting Atiku’s accusation that it rewarded impunity. The response comes amid widespread debate over the content of the presidential pardon list, which initially included convicted kidnappers and drug traffickers before a public outcry forced its review.
