The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on voters, particularly in Anambra State, to reject “stomach infrastructure” – a term used to describe vote-buying and other material inducements offered to sway electoral choices. INEC emphasized the importance of voters demanding genuine development rather than temporary and superficial benefits during the 2025 elections.
In a social media statement, INEC Nigeria urged citizens to say no to vote buying and to prioritize leaders who deliver sustainable improvements in infrastructure, education, and healthcare over short-term handouts. The commission highlighted that “stomach infrastructure” undermines democratic principles and ultimately disenfranchises the electorate.
This campaign aligns with INEC’s broader efforts to promote transparency, political awareness, and informed voting choices, countering the longstanding practice of using financial incentives to manipulate election outcomes.
Voters are encouraged to support candidates based on policies and performance instead of being influenced by immediate gifts or financial gains.
