In a tragic and bizarre incident in Hausari Ward, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, a 50-year-old man named Modu Isa attempted suicide by inflicting serious injuries on himself, including stabbing his stomach three times and cutting off his genitals. The drastic action reportedly followed the refusal of his estranged wife, Bayanxe Modu of Konduga, to return to their matrimonial home. Notably, Isa had divorced her three times prior to this heartbreaking event.
The incident, which unfolded on the evening of Friday, August 15, 2025, sent shockwaves through the community and was disclosed publicly by security analyst Zagazola Makama via his X account. Residents recounted that Isa said, “If Bayanxe cannot have him, then his thing too must go.”
Emergency response teams quickly rushed Isa to the General Hospital in Bama, where doctors performed an emergency operation to reattach his severed organ, a procedure the locals humorously dubbed ‘Operation Return Gbola.’ Currently, Isa is reported to be in stable condition and responding to treatment.
The case has since been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Maiduguri for further investigation, with police recovered weapons used during the act.
While some community members expressed sympathy for Isa’s heartbreak, others reacted with disbelief and astonishment at the extremity of his response to domestic strife. The incident highlights critical issues surrounding mental health, family dynamics, and social pressures in the region.
Authorities continue to investigate and have appealed for public cooperation. The broader community is grappling with this tragic event as it underscores the urgent need to address mental health awareness and support mechanisms for vulnerable individuals.
