Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a pivotal shift in Nigeria’s opposition politics ahead of the 2027 general elections. He formally registered as a member at his Jada 1 Ward in Adamawa State on November 23, 2025, in a ceremony attended by notable party officials, including Senator Sadiq Yar’Adua, the ADC National Secretary.
Atiku’s membership follow his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in July 2025, which was due to prolonged internal crises and irreconcilable differences within the party. His registration with ADC consolidates opposition figures around a coalition platform aiming to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
On his official X account, Atiku posted a photo holding his ADC membership card with the caption “It’s official,” signaling his full-fledged commitment to the party’s cause. Political analysts view his move as significantly boosting the ADC’s visibility and organizational strength nationwide.
The ADC, backed by prominent political leaders such as Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and Peter Obi, positions itself as a credible alternative for Nigerians dissatisfied with the current political order.
