The Allied Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has expressed strong condemnation and vowed to fight tirelessly following the mass sacking of more than 300 workers by the Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Dr. Chidi Lloyd. The dismissals came shortly after Lloyd’s return for a second term as LG chairman, igniting widespread unrest among the affected workers and political activists.

The decision to terminate the employment of these workers was described by ADC officials as both callous and unjust, fueling tensions in Emohua and prompting vocal protests. The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) immediately declared a seven-day warning strike across the state, directing workers in all 23 councils to down tools in response to what they termed an unfair labor action.

ADC leaders accused the Emohua chairman of denying workers their rightful salaries and breaching their welfare obligations, emphasizing that such measures deepen the crisis of unemployment and economic hardship in Rivers State. They have pledged to leverage all legal and political avenues to challenge the dismissals and hold perpetrators accountable.

The streets of Emohua recently witnessed a blockade on the East-West Road by workers demanding reinstatement and justice. The situation has drawn the attention of Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, who has reportedly intervened to address the conflict between local government authorities and staff.

The ADC cautioned that these developments threaten social stability and called on political leaders and stakeholders in Rivers to prioritize dialogue and fair treatment of workers as the state prepares for upcoming electoral contests and governance challenges.

The party reiterated its commitment to the welfare of local government employees and its readiness to advocate for policies that promote job security and sustainable development in Rivers State.
