As Anambra State prepares for its 2025 governorship election scheduled for November 8, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) alongside the Nigeria Police Force and various stakeholders have reassured the public of a free, fair, and credible election. Special emphasis has been placed on the inclusivity of persons with disabilities (PWDs) to ensure their full participation in the voting process.
INEC has outlined strict compliance measures with the Electoral Act 2022, which mandates equity in access and prohibits any form of discrimination. Enhanced voter education campaigns targeting PWDs have been initiated, and polling units have been equipped with facilities like ramps to accommodate those with mobility challenges.
Security agencies, including the police, have pledged to maintain peace and provide security at all polling stations across the state to deter electoral violence and malpractice. Collaborative efforts among stakeholders aim at fostering an atmosphere conducive to democratic expression and safeguarding the rights of all voters.
The commission has also accredited 121 observers to monitor the election and ensure transparency. With 16 political parties fielding candidates, including candidates with female running mates, INEC is confident the election will uphold Nigeria’s democratic values.
