Joe Igbokwe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent allegations of a “Christian genocide” in Nigeria, describing the claims as exaggerated noise. Igbokwe reacted to Trump’s threats of military action against Nigeria for purportedly failing to end the killings of Christians.
He accused Trump of being arrogant and meddling in Nigeria’s internal affairs, urging the ex-president to “carry your arrogance to other countries.” Igbokwe emphasized that Nigeria is a sovereign nation that has been battling terrorism and insecurity affecting all ethnic and religious groups, not just Christians.
The APC official also reiterated that the claims of genocide do not reflect the complex realities on the ground, where violence affects multiple communities. He called on Trump and others to recognize Nigeria’s efforts in addressing security challenges and respect its sovereignty.
This reaction aligns with official statements from the Nigerian government rejecting claims of targeted Christian genocide and the labeling of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” by the US under Trump’s administration.
