The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticized Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), for his recent claim that the ADC will take over Aso Rock and Lagos State government in the 2027 elections. The former Osun State Governor made these remarks at a political event in Lagos during a membership drive for the ADC.
In a statement issued by APC Lagos spokesperson Seye Oladejo on September 14, 2025, the party lamented that Aregbesola, once a proud and influential member of the ruling APC, has now become a “wandering tenant” in a “mushroom opposition party.” Oladejo accused Aregbesola of betraying the party that nurtured his political career, calling his statements political suicide.
“From Lagos Commissioner to Osun Governor and then Minister, Aregbe ate, dined, and thrived on the APC table. Today, in a desperate bid for relevance, he is busy setting fire to the same house that made him. That, dear Nigerians, is political suicide of the highest order,” Oladejo said.
The APC dismissed Aregbesola’s claim as an “empty boast,” warning that placing the former governor at the forefront of the ADC’s efforts is a “recipe for failure.” They argued that the party is a political mirage, citing its poor performance in previous elections.
Oladejo assured Lagosians and Nigerians that the APC’s record of performance on roads, education, healthcare, and governance remains visible and that voters will prioritize performance over “fairy tales.” The party reiterated confidence in winning the 2027 elections and warned that ADC will “inevitably bite the dust.”
The ADC has been pushing a grassroots mobilization strategy in Lagos, aligning with groups like the Labour Party’s Conscience Forum. Aregbesola’s declaration was part of this broader effort to challenge APC dominance at both the federal and Lagos state levels.
This verbal exchange marks a continuation of bitter political rivalry as Nigeria gears up for the 2027 general elections.
