The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the dissolution of all its ward and local government executive committees across Enugu State as part of a restructuring initiative. This move was disclosed by Dr. Ben Nwoye, chairman of the APC caretaker committee in Enugu, during a stakeholders’ meeting in Enugu West Senatorial District.
Dr. Nwoye explained that the decision aligns with directives from the APC National Working Committee, aimed at reorganizing the party for unity and effectiveness in the state. He emphasized that the action was necessary due to overlapping claims to leadership positions and to ensure the party is properly positioned for future political engagements.
However, this dissolution has triggered a crisis within the Enugu APC, with the Agballah-led executive committee rejecting the move, describing it as illegal, unconstitutional, and a violation of party protocols. They argued that only the Zonal Executive Committee or National Executive Committee has the authority to dissolve state executives after following due process.
The dissolution is widely viewed as part of preparations for the anticipated defection of Governor Peter Mbah and several political figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC. The party plans to inaugurate new party structures aligned with the incoming members.
This development has added a new dimension to Enugu’s political landscape as the 2027 elections approach.
