The Arise News Channel is mourning the tragic loss of its news anchor, reporter, and producer Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, who was fatally attacked during an armed robbery at her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025. The 29-year-old journalist, affectionately known as Sommie, was not only a respected broadcaster but also a trained lawyer and advocate for women’s rights.

In an official statement, Arise News described Sommie as a vibrant and dynamic voice who engaged deeply with viewers and was a supportive colleague and friend to many within the station. They called for a swift investigation and justice for the perpetrators responsible for this senseless act.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command confirmed that an investigation is underway, with the Police spokesperson urging the public to provide any information that could assist in apprehending the suspects. No arrests have yet been made.
