A notorious bandit leader named Babaro, who is alleged to have masterminded the attack that killed 34 worshippers in Katsina State, was recently seen participating in a peace dialogue held in Faskari Local Government Area. The attack, which took place during Isha prayers in Mantau, Malumfashi LGA, left many dead and injured, shaking the community.

A photo of Babaro at the peace meeting surfaced on social media, shared by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who confirmed Babaro’s involvement in terrorizing areas like Kankara and Malumfashi. The meeting included several prominent bandit figures such as Ado Aleru and Kwashen-garwa and was focused on establishing a peace agreement with residents.

The peace deal, confirmed by security analyst Bakatsine, involved mutual forgiveness, allowing bandits unarmed entry into towns, safe farming and grazing arrangements, and the unconditional release of captives without the payment of ransom. This agreement is part of ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability in the region amid persistent insecurity.

Local traditional leaders and community members attended the dialogue in hopes of fostering trust and reducing violence. Authorities have, however, not yet issued an official statement regarding the presence of Babaro at the meeting or the specifics of the pact.

The peace meeting follows a tense history of massacres and kidnappings in Katsina, highlighting the urgent need for durable solutions that address the underlying causes of banditry while protecting innocent lives.
