Kano politics has long been defined by the rivalry between former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his successor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Their falling out has not only shaped the political direction of the state but also created deep divisions among their supporters. In a fresh revelation, House of Representatives member Abdulmumin Jibrin disclosed that he made efforts to reconcile the two political heavyweights, though peace has remained elusive.

Jibrin explained that his attempts were motivated by the need to restore unity in Kano’s political space, which he described as being heavily polarized by the feud between the former allies. According to him, both men once worked hand in hand to consolidate political power in the state, but personal and political disagreements turned them into bitter opponents, weakening the collective strength of their supporters.

The lawmaker stated that he reached out to both Kwankwaso and Ganduje at different times, hoping to broker dialogue and reduce the hostility that has dominated Kano politics for years. However, his interventions did not yield the desired outcome as entrenched interests and mistrust made reconciliation difficult.

Jibrin emphasized that beyond personal rivalries, the people of Kano deserve peace, development, and unity among their leaders. He noted that political conflicts often derail progress and create unnecessary divisions among ordinary citizens who should instead benefit from purposeful governance.

While acknowledging the failure of his reconciliation efforts, Jibrin expressed optimism that one day both men might bury the hatchet for the sake of the state. He urged other stakeholders to prioritize dialogue, stressing that political battles should not come at the expense of Kano’s growth and stability.
