The Borno State Police Command has arrested two Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) suspected of fatally beating a 72-year-old man at the ISS IDP camp in Ngala Local Government Area. The suspects, identified as Modu Mohammed, 25, and Annami Modu, 32, allegedly accused the victim, Abba Mustapha, of witchcraft and causing the illness of one of their wives.
According to Police Public Relations Officer ASP Nahun Daso, the suspects attacked Mustapha with sticks inside his residence at the camp following their accusations. Police officers at the camp intervened and rushed the victim to the General Hospital in Ngala, where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
The suspects were apprehended at the scene, and several exhibits were recovered by the police. An autopsy was conducted, and the victim’s body was released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites. The Criminal Investigation Department in Maiduguri has commenced investigations into the matter.
The police have reassured the public of their commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and cautioning the communities against resorting to violence based on allegations such as witchcraft.
