The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has suspended four top party officials following a Federal High Court ruling that halted the planned National Elective Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. Among those suspended are the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; National Organising Secretary, Hon. Umar Bature; National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade; and Deputy National Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha.
The suspensions were announced by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, after an emergency NWC meeting held at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja. The NWC concluded that the suspended officials engaged in activities that were “inconsistent with the provisions of the PDP Constitution and detrimental to the interest of the party.”
This disciplinary action follows the court order restraining the party from proceeding with the convention, a move strongly contested by the PDP, which described the court ruling as an assault on Nigeria’s democratic process. The party insists that it will continue with internal processes despite the legal challenges, citing a Supreme Court ruling affirming political parties’ autonomy in managing internal affairs.
The suspended officials have been referred to the PDP Disciplinary Committee for further action. The party has called on all members to remain focused and committed as it navigates these internal challenges ahead of the 2027 elections.
