The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed a team of Algerian match officials to oversee the upcoming CAF Champions League first-round second-leg fixture between Nigeria’s Rivers United FC and DR Congo’s FC Les Aigles du Congo. The crucial encounter is set to take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Leading the officiating crew will be center referee Houssam Benyahia from Algeria, supported by assistant referees from the same country. The match commissioner will be Munkaila Nassam Adam of Ghana, ensuring compliance with CAF regulations and smooth conduct during the game scheduled for September 28, 2025.

This appointment follows the first leg refereed by a Mauritanian contingent in Kinshasa, highlighting CAF’s commitment to neutrality and high officiating standards. The two-legged tie is part of the qualifying rounds, with the aggregate winner progressing further in Africa’s premier club competition.

The winner will not only secure continental honors but also an opportunity to compete on the global stage, including qualification for the prestigious FIFA Club World Cup and the CAF Super Cup. Rivers United’s management has expressed confidence, aiming to capitalize on home advantage to advance.

Football fans across Nigeria and Africa await this intense contest, which promises thrilling action and showcases rising talents in African club football.
