The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abia State has been thrown into fresh crisis as a faction within the party announced the suspension of its state chairman, heightening the struggle for control of the party’s structure.

The group, made up of party leaders and stakeholders, accused the suspended chairman of alleged misconduct and failure to properly manage the affairs of the party in the state. They maintained that the decision was necessary to restore order and reposition the ADC ahead of upcoming political activities.

Tensions have been brewing in the Abia ADC for months, with rival factions clashing over the direction of the party and accusations of poor leadership. The latest suspension is seen as part of a broader battle for dominance, as different interests seek to secure control of the party’s structure ahead of the 2027 elections.

While the faction insists that its action is in line with the party’s constitution, loyalists of the embattled chairman have dismissed the suspension as illegal, vowing to resist any attempt to sideline him.

The development adds to the growing wave of internal conflicts across political parties in the state, a situation observers say could weaken opposition forces if not resolved amicably.
