Despite heavy rainfall on September 13, 2025, members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State showed remarkable dedication by turning out in large numbers to participate in the party’s ward congresses. The elections to choose new executives and delegates took place peacefully across all 192 wards of the state.
Journalists monitoring the process at Oredo Wards I, II, and III in Benin City described the exercise as orderly, well-attended, and marked by enthusiasm from party faithful who braved the rain to cast their votes. Many members arrived as early as 7:30 a.m., reflecting strong commitment despite adverse weather conditions.
Leading the monitoring team was Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, State Caretaker Committee Chairman of Edo PDP, who traveled with officials from the party’s national headquarters in Abuja. Aziegbemi praised the congress as a testament to the PDP’s rising strength and spirit in Edo.
“I was initially jittery due to the downpour but was pleasantly surprised by the enthusiasm of our members. We believe the PDP is on the rise and will give the APC a run for their money in the upcoming elections,” Aziegbemi said.
Chairman of the PDP Ward Congress Electoral Committee, Mr. Tariga Tulagha, commended the unity and peaceful conduct displayed during the elections. He dismissed rumors of internal conflicts, stating the voting process demonstrated a harmonious party environment with unanimous support for motions raised.
This successful ward congress is viewed as a crucial step toward rebuilding the PDP’s influence in Edo State and mounting a strong challenge to the ruling APC in the 2027 general elections. Party leaders expressed confidence that the current federal and state governments’ failures will bolster PDP’s appeal and voter support.
