Former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has lauded the re-election of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, describing the victory as a crushing defeat for those who had issued false prophecies and predictions against the incumbent. Fayose said Oyebanji’s win in the June 2022 governorship election and continued political strength in the state serve as a testament to the people’s rejection of deceitful political forecasting and “fake prophets.”
In a statement released on September 10, 2025, Fayose emphasized that the electoral triumph of Oyebanji, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has not just been a personal victory but a significant moral boost for the party and its supporters. He noted the peaceful and credible conduct of the elections, commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its professionalism, and praised the Ekiti electorate for their wisdom.
Fayose said, “Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s mandate from the people of Ekiti stands strong and his governance has proved many wrong. The fake prophecies and political opportunists hyped up before and after the elections have been thoroughly silenced by the people’s verdict.”
Oyebanji secured approximately 187,000 votes, winning 15 out of 16 local government areas, decisively defeating his closest rival Segun Oni of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Fayose pointed to the broad acceptance of Oyebanji’s leadership across social groups and regions in Ekiti as a clear sign of political stability and progress.
Fayose expressed hope that the victory would inspire unity and a focus on development, encouraging stakeholders and politicians to channel their energies towards genuine governance and collaboration rather than divisive politics.
The former governor also reiterated his readiness to work constructively with all parties, including APC-led administrations, to ensure Ekiti’s socio-economic growth and stability in the coming years.
