Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has hailed his team’s crucial 2-1 away victory against Lesotho in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. Chelle described the win at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, South Africa, as an important step in keeping Nigeria’s World Cup hopes alive amidst a fiercely competitive Group C.

Speaking after the tense match, Chelle emphasized the significance of securing all three points in what he termed a very challenging fixture. Nigeria’s goals came from captain William Troost-Ekong, who converted a penalty, and debutant Akor Adams, who scored a stunning goal late in the game. Despite conceding a late consolation goal, Nigeria managed to hold on for the win.

Chelle credited the team’s resilience and fighting spirit for the victory, stressing that they must maintain focus and intensity in the upcoming qualifier against Benin Republic. He acknowledged the strength of Lesotho and their capable coach but stressed that the Super Eagles showed quality and composure when it mattered most.

With the win, Nigeria remains in the hunt to qualify for the FIFA World Cup for the first time since 2018, though the challenge remains tough with two final group games still to be played.
