The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has formally endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Christopher Maikalangu, ahead of the Abuja Area Council elections scheduled for February 2026. Wike made this declaration during the flag-off ceremony of a 7-kilometre road project in Tunga Madaki, a key infrastructural development linking several communities to the Abuja Airport.

Christoper Maikalangu, the incumbent chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), is seeking re-election for a second term after recently defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC. Wike praised Maikalangu’s persistent efforts in advocating for the Tunga Madaki community, including the successful negotiation for land compensation related to the second runway project at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

Linking development to electoral support, Wike urged residents to reciprocate the government’s good work by voting for Maikalangu. He reminded the electorate that past council leadership had neglected infrastructure and questioned their presence when communities struggled with impassable roads.

“The road project fulfils promises made and is a testament to a government that listens and delivers,” Wike stated, emphasizing that the road would be completed by June 2026, in time to celebrate the third anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. His endorsement is seen as a significant boost for APC’s grassroots campaign in the FCT, reinforcing its development-focused politics.

Wike’s backing serves as a strategic call for voters to support the ruling party’s candidate in hopes of continued growth and infrastructural advancement in the capital territory.
