The Federal Government has launched a dedicated online portal to streamline the registration, licensing, and professional development of teachers across Nigeria.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), is part of efforts to professionalise teaching and raise standards in the education sector. The portal will serve as a one-stop platform where teachers can apply for certification, renew licenses, and access continuous training resources.

Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, who unveiled the platform in Abuja, said the project represents a significant step towards ensuring that only qualified and licensed individuals are allowed to teach in Nigerian schools. He stressed that the government is committed to improving the quality of education by prioritising teacher development.

According to him, the new digital system will also create a central database of registered teachers, making it easier to monitor compliance and enforce standards nationwide. This, he said, would curb the activities of unqualified teachers and ensure Nigerian students receive quality instruction at all levels.

The TRCN Registrar, Prof. Josiah Ajiboye, explained that the platform will also track teachers’ career progression and provide access to professional development programmes, which are crucial for adapting to evolving global education trends.

Education stakeholders have lauded the move, describing it as timely and necessary for repositioning the teaching profession. They also called for effective implementation and regular updates to ensure the platform meets the needs of teachers across urban and rural areas.
