Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has publicly debunked recent false rumours circulating on social media about his death, assuring fans and family that he is very much alive and in good health. The actor addressed the rumours in a video posted on Instagram on September 11, 2025, urging supporters to disregard the misleading reports and report the page responsible for spreading the false information.
In the video, Agu identified himself as Chief Chiwetalu Agu, Okenmiri n’Ezoru Oha 1 of Etiti Amokwe, Enugu State, and declared, “I am not going to die anytime soon. Instead, I will be the one to bury my enemies.” Known for his bold words, Agu warned that those who dig pits or graves for others eventually fall into them.
Responding to the choice not to pursue legal action, Agu explained that if a major Nigerian blogger like Tunde, Linda Ikeji, or Gossipmill had spread the false death reports, he would have sued for defamation, economic and business damages, cyber harassment, and misuse of images. However, the blogger responsible for this particular misinformation is “still struggling with likes,” limiting the impact and financial implication of the claim.
The actor expressed disbelief that in 2025, many people easily believe such rumours without verifying the truth, cautioning fans and the public to be more discerning about the information they consume and share.
Chiwetalu Agu’s no-nonsense response comes after a Facebook user posted “RIP” along with pictures of the actor, falsely claiming that he had died following health complications like diabetes and spinal surgery. The post quickly went viral, sparking confusion and concern among fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry.
Agu’s longstanding career and influence in Nollywood have made him a respected figure, and his clear rejection of the death rumours serves as a reminder of the dangers of misinformation and the importance of fact-checking in today’s digital age.
