Isaiah Davies Ijele, convener of the civil society group League for Good Governance (LEGOG), has called on President Bola Tinubu to permit the Department of State Services (DSS) to probe allegations surrounding the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. The appeal comes in the wake of accusations that Tunji-Ojo submitted a forged NYSC certificate as part of the requirements for his ministerial appointment.

Ijele stressed that shielding the minister from scrutiny would undermine the credibility of Tinubu’s administration, particularly in relation to adherence to the rule of law and good governance. The group highlighted the importance of transparency, urging President Tinubu to direct Tunji-Ojo to submit himself to full investigation and verification of his NYSC credentials with relevant authorities.

The call comes amid public concerns given a recent similar scandal involving a former minister who resigned over NYSC certificate issues. LEGOG warned against allowing the controversy to be politicized or ethnically charged, stressing that compliance with the law is a non-negotiable principle for all public officials.

By permitting a thorough and impartial inquiry, the Tinubu administration would strengthen public confidence and demonstrate an unwavering commitment to accountability. Ijele’s statement underlines the broader call for integrity in public service and zero tolerance for certificate forgery in Nigeria’s political landscape.
