The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State has urged the current administration led by Governor Umar Namadi to take decisive action to eliminate ghost workers from the state’s payroll system. The party believes that addressing this issue will free up substantial financial resources that can be redirected toward funding crucial development projects within the state.

This call was made by PDP state chairman Honorable Babandi Ibrahim Gumel on his Facebook page, reacting to a recent BudgIT report that ranked Jigawa State the lowest in budget performance among Nigeria’s 36 states. The report highlighted Jigawa’s poor capital budget implementation, noting that vital sectors like health, education, and infrastructure received significantly less funding than allocated.

According to Gumel, the revelation is a wake-up call exposing fiscal indiscipline in the state. He emphasized that eliminating fake workers on the payroll would signal the administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability and provide much-needed resources to drive inclusive growth.

The state government had previously uncovered approximately 7,000 ghost workers during verification exercises, with those failing to attend removed from payroll to curb financial waste. Despite this, PDP insists that sustained efforts are paramount to rebuild public trust and improve budget execution, ensuring that developmental goals are met effectively.

Honorable Babandi called on Governor Namadi to prioritize capital projects urgently and restore fiscal discipline to reposition Jigawa State for meaningful progress.
