Alhaji Amadu Danfulani, a prominent figure within the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Gobirawa Ward of Dala Local Government Area, Kano State, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The defection took place on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the APC state headquarters located on Hotoro-Maiduguri Road, marking a significant political realignment in Kano ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Danfulani expressed deep dissatisfaction with the leadership of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and its founder, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. He accused the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), which governs Kano, of implementing anti-people policies that fail to meet the needs and aspirations of the grassroots population. This disappointment, he conveyed, led him and thousands of his followers to seek a new political home in the APC, which currently holds federal power.
The defection ceremony was attended by key APC leaders, including Kano State party chairman Abdullahi Abbas, represented by the zonal chairman Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Ungoggo, as well as Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, Managing Director of Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority. The event witnessed a warm reception and public baptism into the APC fold for Danfulani and the accompanying mass of supporters.
Highlighting Gobirawa Ward’s political importance as the largest ward in Nigeria with the highest number of polling units, party leaders described Danfulani’s move as a strategic victory for APC in consolidating its grassroots influence. The leadership also extended an open invitation to Senator Kwankwaso, affirming that he could return to APC if he adheres to the party’s rules and constitution.
Danfulani pledged full support to APC’s agenda and promised to work with the party’s candidates to secure electoral victories in the upcoming elections. His defection sends a clear message of shifting political loyalties in Kano, reflecting the dynamic and competitive landscape of Nigerian politics.
