The Labour Party (LP) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take decisive steps in addressing Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, stressing that if he cannot deliver on this critical responsibility, he should consider stepping aside.

Speaking in reaction to the spate of violent attacks, kidnappings, and banditry across the country, LP leaders emphasized that Nigerians are weary of promises without action. They noted that insecurity has crippled economic activities in many communities, driven farmers away from their farmlands, and heightened the cost of living.

The party stated that every government’s primary duty is to protect lives and property, adding that Tinubu’s administration must show more seriousness in deploying resources, technology, and political will to safeguard Nigerians.

Labour Party further urged the President to convene an urgent national security dialogue that will bring together security chiefs, community leaders, and stakeholders to map out lasting solutions. The party argued that Nigerians voted for leadership that would end the suffering brought about by insecurity, not one that excuses failures.

They insisted that the President cannot afford to pass the buck or blame past governments, stressing that citizens want to see results in the form of safer highways, secure schools, and thriving communities.

As the situation worsens in several parts of the country, the LP maintained that history will not be kind to any leader who fails to protect his citizens.
