The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted sharply to the ongoing #FreeNnamdiKanu protest, accusing opposition groups of orchestrating the demonstrations to leverage national tension for their political comeback. In a recent statement, Lagos APC spokesman Mogaji (Hon) Seye Oladejo described the protest as a reckless political maneuver, comparing it to the biblical phrase “hand of Jacob, voice of Esau,” emphasizing deceit and manipulation behind the agitation.

While affirming that freedom of expression and peaceful assembly are democratic rights, Oladejo argued that the protest falls short of a genuine call for justice, as it instead aggravates insecurity and socio-economic hardships in the South East region. The APC accused some opposition leaders of using the protest as a tool for political exploitation following their electoral setbacks, warning Nigerians against being misled by such antics.

The party highlighted the ongoing challenges in the South East, including kidnappings, insecurity, and the harsh impact of past conflicts on local commerce, transportation, and education. It cautioned that the rally in support of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), dishonors the memories of victims and the sacrifices of widows and orphans in the region.

Moreover, Lagos APC stressed its confidence in the judicial process, pointing out that Kanu’s case remains under legal scrutiny and that the courts will deliver impartial justice without undue influence from protests. The statement also commended the Tinubu administration’s efforts under the Renewed Hope Agenda to promote unity and inclusive development, encouraging citizens to support peace rather than division.

Concluding, Oladejo appealed to leaders, especially in the South East, to reject bitterness and divisive politics, urging Nigerians to pursue national progress through cooperation and peace, not through street unrest. He stated, “Nigeria belongs to all of us, and we must not allow political desperation to tear it apart.”

This development adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing discourse on Nnamdi Kanu’s detention and the escalating political tensions surrounding the issue nationwide.
