Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has assured the public that his administration will not resort to borrowing to finance ongoing and future projects. Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony for township road projects in Rigasa Ward, Igabi Local Government Area, the governor emphasized a strong commitment to fiscal discipline and sustainable development without incurring new debts.
Since assuming office, Uba Sani has maintained a strict policy of avoiding loans, even though the state inherited significant domestic and foreign debts from the previous administration. The governor disclosed that several financial institutions had approached his government with loan offers, but he refused to accept these to prevent placing Kaduna into further debt.
Instead, the administration has focused on cutting costs, streamlining government operations, and leveraging grants from donor agencies such as Qatar Charity, which is investing in substantial projects like the Kaduna Economic City and mass housing in Millennium City.
At the Rigasa event, Governor Sani pledged that all projects would be fully funded from internally generated resources and grants, ensuring no abandonment due to lack of funds. He also announced that mobilization fees have been paid to reputable contractors, promising timely completion within one year.
His commitment represents a bold governance approach amid challenging economic conditions, prioritizing efficient management and prudent spending over quick loans. This strategy aims to build lasting infrastructure and social amenities while safeguarding Kaduna State’s financial health for the future.
