The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused former Governor Bello Matawalle and Senator Abdul’aziz Yari of contributing to the shrinking influence of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. In a statement released by the APC Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris Gusau, the party praised the leadership of Matawalle and Yari for fostering unity and driving the party’s recent successes in Zamfara.
The APC contended that their efforts have led to a steady erosion of the PDP’s power base, highlighted by the defection of key PDP officials and lawmakers to the APC. The party argued that these defections and defections were evidence of the PDP’s weakening grip in Zamfara ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The statement criticized PDP figures accused of betrayal and undermining the party’s position, including Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, urging them to reconsider their actions. APC expressed confidence in maintaining and expanding their control in the state through continued unity and strategic leadership.
The rivalry between Matawalle and Yari-led APC and the dwindling PDP presents a high-stakes political battle shaping Zamfara’s political landscape ahead of the coming polls.
