As Nigeria marks its 65th Independence Anniversary, the Federal Government has reflected on the nation’s remarkable journey and outlined key achievements under President Bola Tinubu’s administration that have helped remove historic barriers to progress. The milestone celebration comes with the theme “All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation”, emphasizing unity, collective responsibility, and accelerated development.
At a press briefing, government officials highlighted how the Renewed Hope Agenda championed by President Tinubu has steered Nigeria towards stability, economic growth, and infrastructural advancement despite challenges over the past two and a half years. Key infrastructural projects include flagship initiatives like the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, and the Trans-Saharan Highway, which connect Nigeria’s geopolitical zones and open up new economic corridors.
The government also focused on revitalizing the transport sector with high-impact rail projects such as the Kano-Kaduna standard gauge line and plans to rehabilitate the Eastern rail corridor. In energy, efforts are underway to complete the refurbished 255MW Kaduna Power Plant alongside major power initiatives aiming to close Nigeria’s metering gap with smart meters by 2027.
Officials said the administration is committed to equitable development, with no region left behind, and acknowledged the sacrifices made by Nigerians to support the reforms. These efforts are complemented by the establishment of new regional development commissions and a supervising federal ministry designed to manage inclusive growth.
The Federal Government’s narrative links the spirit of resilience, innovation, and patriotism that defines Nigeria’s 65 years of independence with President Tinubu’s policies that aim to position the nation as prosperous, peaceful, and united. Celebratory activities include civic prayers, interdenominational church services, and the launch of programs recognizing outstanding Nigerians who have contributed to nation-building.
As Nigerians reflect on their past and look forward to the future, the government has called for continued cooperation from citizens to sustain the gains and fulfill the dream of a greater Nigeria.
