The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship aspirant in Ekiti State has vowed that no force will deter the party’s progress following the recent attack on its state secretariat in Ado Ekiti. Suspected political thugs set the party office ablaze in the early hours of October 21, 2025, destroying valuable property including chairs, sound equipment, and office furniture, just hours before the planned inauguration of ADC executives in the state.
In a strong reaction, the ADC governorship hopeful condemned the act as a desperate attempt to undermine the party’s growing influence in Ekiti. He stressed that such violence and intimidation would not disrupt their democratic process or dampen the spirits of party members determined to bring change to the state.
The Ekiti ADC chairman, Mr. Ilesanmi Omolayo, disclosed that several party members were assaulted during the attack and are currently receiving treatment. Despite the disruption, the party leadership persevered with the inauguration of new executives, reaffirming their commitment to democracy and peaceful political participation.
Police have launched a full-scale investigation into the incident following directives from the state Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, with a promise to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators.
The ADC condemned the incident as political terrorism, warning that such attacks threaten democracy and the freedom to choose, calling for support from civil society and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to protect political actors.
