The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has declared a determined offensive against the Lakurawa armed group, pledging to flush out the militants from Kebbi State and restore peace to the affected communities. This statement comes amid rising insecurity linked to the group’s violent activities in the border areas of Kebbi, particularly within the Arewa Dandi and Augie local government areas.

Lakurwa, an armed faction with ties to the Islamic State Sahel Province, has been responsible for numerous attacks, kidnappings, and disruptions. Operating across the dense forested border regions between Nigeria and Niger Republic, the group exploits the difficult terrain to evade security forces and launch raids on villages, causing loss of lives and property.

The NSCDC emphasized that concerted efforts involving multiple security agencies and the state government have intensified operations to dismantle Lakurawa’s bases and cut off their logistic support. The corps vowed no rest until the group is completely neutralized and peace returns to the communities plagued by their insurgency.

Officials have called on residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security personnel during these operations. The NSCDC reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and properties, highlighting that the fight against armed banditry and terrorism in Kebbi is a top priority aligned with national security objectives.

The crackdown on Lakurawa is part of a broader drive by Nigerian security forces to end the menace of armed groups destabilizing the northwest region, restore confidence among the people, and enable economic and social activities to flourish unhindered.
