The Obidient Movement, a citizens-led political platform inspired by former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, has officially denied endorsing incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the upcoming November 8, 2025, Anambra State governorship election. In a statement released on October 21, 2025, National Coordinator Dr. Yunusa Tanko described recent claims of Soludo’s endorsement by a faction within the movement as “false, misleading, and unauthorized.”
Dr. Tanko clarified that the Obidient Movement remains committed to supporting George Moghalu, the Labour Party candidate and former Deputy Governor of Anambra, who also enjoys the backing of Peter Obi. According to him, the Obidient Movement is an independent non-partisan body focused on promoting integrity, accountability, and people-centered leadership rather than engaging in transactional politics or partisan alignments.
The statement condemned the misappropriation of the movement’s name and warned the public and media to verify information from official sources to avoid spreading disinformation, which threatens Nigeria’s democratic process. Dr. Tanko also reaffirmed that all political decisions involving the movement will be collectively made and publicly communicated through official channels.
The clarification comes amid confusion caused by a controversial press conference led by Ikenna Azomchine, a self-declared leader of the Obidient Movement in Anambra, who prematurely announced support for Governor Soludo. The national leadership insists such unilateral actions do not represent the movement’s official position.
This development highlights ongoing political realignments in Anambra ahead of crucial elections as grassroots movements like the Obidient Movement seek to maintain their nonpartisan ethos while influencing governance reforms.
