Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has reminded Nigerians, particularly legal practitioners, that life and success are sustained by God’s mercy rather than human intelligence or effort. Speaking at the September 2025 thanksgiving and prayer service themed “Divine Mercy” held at the RCCG national headquarters, Throne of Grace Parish, Ebute-Metta, Adeboye emphasized that the very fact of being alive is proof of God’s mercy.

“The fact that we are alive today is of the mercy of God,” he said. “When you consider the various ways a person could die, you will know that you are alive not because you are clever but because of the Lord’s mercy.” He illustrated this with a testimony from his university days when, despite preparing well for a mathematics exam, he initially went blank but was kept seated by a mysterious power and was able to answer all questions and pass.

Pastor Adeboye also stressed that God’s mercy is conditional, quoting scripture: “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.” He warned that those who refuse to show mercy risk serious consequences, including “destruction without remedy.”

Addressing the attendees, which included prominent legal figures such as state chief judges and senior advocates, Pastor Adeboye urged lawyers to uphold fairness and equity in their practice, underscoring their critical role in pursuing justice in the nation. The church also distributed rice to over 2,000 needy persons during the service, highlighting the importance of showing mercy both spiritually and practically.

He cautioned that one cannot expect God’s mercy while simultaneously engaging in acts like kidnapping, corruption, or murder. The thanksgiving service served as a reminder of the power of mercy in both personal and professional lives.
