The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of displaying a lack of democratic sportsmanship in the country’s political landscape as Nigeria gears up for the 2027 general elections. The opposition party claimed that APC’s actions undermine the principles of fair play, transparency, and respect for the will of the people.
In a statement released by PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the party blamed APC for attempts to intimidate and manipulate the electoral process. The PDP condemned what it described as the ruling party’s efforts to exploit state resources, coerce politicians through threats, and undermine opposition parties.
The PDP further criticized the APC-led Federal Government for allegedly using public institutions for partisan interests and fostering an environment where election violence and vote rigging are prevalent. “The APC’s conduct confirms a desire to turn Nigeria into a one-party state,” the statement said, warning that such actions threaten the very foundation of Nigeria’s democracy.
The APC, in response, dismissed the allegations as hypocritical and politically motivated, pointing to its electoral victories and reforms as proof of its legitimacy and popularity. The ruling party accused PDP leaders of failing to offer credible alternatives and alleged internal discord within the opposition.
As the 2027 elections approach, tensions between the two parties continue to escalate, with calls from both sides for Nigerians to remain vigilant and uphold democratic values. The PDP’s accusation highlights growing concerns about the conduct of political parties and the integrity of the upcoming polls.
