Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has issued a strong condemnation of the increasing deaths of men in uniform across Nigeria, stating that the country can no longer continue to bury its security personnel at alarming rates. Obi’s remarks underscore the deepening security crisis faced by the nation, with frequent attacks and casualties involving the military, police, and other paramilitary forces.

Obi highlighted the tragic loss of over 100 military personnel in Zamfara State earlier in 2025, along with countless others across various conflict zones in the country. He warned that Nigeria is effectively at war, urging the government to prioritize the protection of lives over infrastructure projects and political showmanship.

In his statement on social media, Obi expressed sorrow over the relentless violence, which he said mirrors the death tolls typical of active war zones elsewhere in the world. He criticized current governance for failing to safeguard the nation’s defenders, insisting that decisive action is urgently needed to reverse the spiraling insecurity.

Obi called on President Bola Tinubu and his administration to accept the stark realities of the security situation and to implement comprehensive strategies to halt the bloodshed. The former Anambra governor stressed that saving lives must become the foremost priority if Nigeria is to restore peace and stability.

His comments have resonated widely with Nigerians who have grown increasingly concerned over the high rate of attacks on security personnel and civilians alike. Obi’s warning serves as a rallying cry for urgent reforms and renewed commitment to tackling the country’s persistent security challenges.
