Following their reinstatement by the Court of Appeal earlier this year, the All Progressives Congress (APC) local government chairmen in Osun State have pledged to recall over 1,500 workers who were previously dismissed and to clear outstanding salary arrears owed to traditional rulers. This commitment comes after the federal government released the council allocations that had been withheld since February 2025 due to a leadership dispute between APC and PDP factions.

The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in the APC faction, Abiodun Idowu, emphasized that the legally recognised APC-led local government executives are the authentic administrators across the 30 local governments and the area office within the state. He reaffirmed that their mandate, freely given by the people in October 2022, was interrupted but ultimately restored by the courts.

Idowu disclosed that plans are underway to reinstate teachers, health workers, O’YES cadets, and vendors who were dismissed by the previous administration. Beyond reinstating these workers, the chairmen also intend to offset part of their due salaries and emoluments to alleviate financial burdens.

Additionally, arrangements have been concluded to pay arrears owed to traditional rulers, signaling the chairmen’s resolve to strengthen community leadership and governance.

The APC chairmen have dismissed allegations from the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), which had called for caution regarding the legality of the payments, labeling such claims as baseless and politically motivated.

This move represents a significant step toward restoring governance at the grassroots level in Osun State and repairing relationships with workers and community leaders after a prolonged period of administrative conflict and withheld resources.
