Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has expressed determination that Nigeria will continue to fight for qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite the recent 1-1 draw with South Africa’s Bafana Bafana. Speaking after the crucial qualifier played on September 8, 2025, Chelle acknowledged the challenges but stressed the team’s resilience and focus on winning their remaining matches.

“We have two games left, and it’s not over. We will keep fighting and give our best until the end,” Chelle said. He emphasized that the draw was a valuable point gained away in tough conditions and praised the players’ effort, especially with key absences like Victor Osimhen due to injury.

Nigeria now sits third in Group C, six points behind group leaders South Africa, but Chelle remains optimistic about turning the situation around by securing wins against Lesotho and Benin Republic in October.

Despite being written off by many pundits early in the qualifiers, Chelle said he is focused on preparing the squad for the challenges ahead and believes they can surprise many by qualifying for the World Cup.

The coach highlighted that the forthcoming matches will require tactical discipline, mental strength, and collective effort, reiterating his confidence in the team’s potential to deliver results on the big stage.
