Tension gripped a popular market in Lagos after a disagreement over N8,000 allegedly escalated into a violent clash that claimed a life.
According to eyewitness accounts, the conflict began when a trader accused another of failing to refund the said amount after a business transaction went sour. The heated exchange quickly drew in sympathizers from both sides, leading to a brawl within the market premises.
Witnesses said the quarrel, which initially appeared minor, spiraled out of control as tempers flared and weapons were brandished. In the chaos that followed, one person was fatally attacked while several others sustained injuries.
Some traders narrated that the deceased had tried to intervene to calm the situation but was caught in the middle of the fight. Others accused miscreants within the market of taking advantage of the fracas to fuel violence.
Security operatives later stormed the scene to restore order, while the body of the victim was taken away for autopsy. Police authorities confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation has commenced to unravel those behind the killing and bring them to justice.
The tragic development has since thrown the market community into mourning, with calls for tighter security and dispute resolution mechanisms to prevent similar incidents in the future.
