Despite recent defections of several key officials to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, a leading chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reassured supporters that the party remains strong and resilient. The chieftain acknowledged the departures but emphasized that the PDP’s foundations in the state are intact, supported by loyal members and grassroots structures.
The defections, including fifteen senior PDP officials such as former Youth Leader Sahad Dabo and Treasurer Nasiru Anka, have been a blow to the party. However, the PDP leader highlighted ongoing efforts to reconcile differences, strengthen leadership cohesion, and rejuvenate the party’s grassroots to ensure competitiveness ahead of the 2027 elections.
The chieftain also stressed that defections are common in Nigerian politics and should not be seen as a collapse but rather as opportunities for renewal. He promised that the PDP would continue to focus on delivering its political agenda and reconnecting with its base in Zamfara.
Political analysts note that while the APC has been aggressive in wooing PDP members, the PDP’s historical presence and commitment in Zamfara give it a fighting chance to reclaim lost ground in the coming elections.
