Legendary French footballer and former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has revealed that his ultimate ambition is to become the head coach of the France national team. Speaking at the Festival dello Sport in Trento, Zidane confirmed his plan to return to coaching and his desire to take over the prestigious role once Didier Deschamps steps down after the 2026 World Cup.
Zidane, who last managed Real Madrid in 2021, has turned down several club offers, including from Manchester United, preferring to wait for the right opportunity. His affection for the French national team, where he earned 108 caps and won the 1998 World Cup, makes the role particularly meaningful to him.
The current France coach, Deschamps, has announced he will resign after the 2026 World Cup, creating a vacancy that Zidane is ready to fill. Zidane’s remarkable managerial record with Madrid—winning three consecutive Champions League titles among other trophies—positions him as a favorite to succeed.
While Zidane is open to future possibilities, coaching France remains his top goal, reflecting his deep connection to his home country and desire to continue making an impact on the international stage.
